Free Form Fibers has been granted a direct-to-phase II SBIR award from the Department of the Navy to examine the capacity for LCVD technology to produce silicon carbide fibers with varied cross-sectional shapes. These fibers are intended for use as the reinforcement phase in advanced ceramic matrix composites (CMCs). The program will span 18 months with an option period of an additional 6 months. The technical focus of the project builds on previously demonstrated fiber geometries produced at Free Form Fibers.
