Shay Harrison

CEO, Board Member

Shay Harrison recently became the CEO of Free Form Fibers. He originally joined the organization in June 2012 as the Senior Materials Scientist, focusing on fiber morphology, crystallography, and chemistry, assessment of thermal and mechanical properties of the fiber products, as well as fiber growth rate optimization. The technical focus of Free Form Fibers on laser-driven chemical vapor deposition processing had significant relevance as his doctoral dissertation centered on the utilization of LCVD to deposit silicon carbide as a ceramic weld ‘filler’ material to join SiC tube structures.

Dr. Harrison earned his Ph.D. in Materials Science in 1999 at the University of Connecticut, and previously was granted a B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from Rice University in 1994. He has 15 years of industrial and government experience in research & development and manufacturing of materials, focused mainly on refractory and engineered ceramic compositions. Dr. Harrison served as a materials scientist/engineer at Delphi Automotive, Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, and Blasch Precision Ceramics (for 2+ years as the Director of Research and Development). Shay is a member of the American Ceramic Society and the American Society of Testing and Materials. He is a co-inventor on 2 patents and over 10 patents pending.
